Most Netizens went into online protest with the approval of the Anti-Cybercrime Law, as it has provisions on online libel and it can supress the citizen's right to freedom of free speech and expression. We may notice these past days that most netizens in facebook used black profile pictures and black bar followed by "[STATUS BLOCKED] (RA NO 10175)." status messages.
Sen. Teofisto Guingona is the only first Senator who opposed the passage of this bill. for he claims it to be "oppresive and dangerous". Last September he asked the High Court to void certain provisions of RA No. 10175 including libel.
Sen. Guingona said in an earlier statement "Let me clarify this to avoid confusion, the country needs a Cybercrime Prevention Act, however, this law that was passed recently contains problematic provisions". He also added that "without these confusing and vague provisions, this law is necessary".
Today after witnessing the reactions of Netizens And Filipinos regarding the said bill, Senator Ferdinand "Bong Bong" Marcos and Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero and the other Senators who signed for the passing of Republic Act No. 10175 or the Anti-Cybercrime Law are now set to file ammendments to the law to repeal provisions on libel.
